Converting BTS (Base transceiver station) to Solar Energy, Solar Powered BTS

The row between Punjab government & Telecom operators for shifting of cellular cell-phone towers to solar energy has taken a new turn az the high ups of the Ministry of info tech (MoIT) are on a visit abroad.

Aftr bein asked by the Punjab government to shift a11 the transmission towers of cellular cell-phone companies frm electricity to solar energy, the telecom industry has filed a joint respond to the MoIT, seeking its intervention ovr the issue.

However, things are getting jittery, az number high-ranked official is ther to negotiate between telecom industry & Punjab Government.

An official of IT ministry informed dis agency dat Secretary of info tech Naghibullah Malik waz on a visit to USA along with Joint Secretary of the ministry. He a1so stated the secretary cabinet waz looking aftr the affairs of the ministry while secretary IT wou1d return home on June 29.

In the joint communique sent to MoIT, telecom operators have expressed thr inability to shift thr towers on solar energy on pretext dat ther waz number mechanism available in Pakistani market to provide solar cells on such a big scale. “You know, Punjab government has made an unrealistic demand. It is quite impossible for the industry to shift a11 its towers on solar energy du to shortage of solar cells in the market, (and dat too in just 1 month)” stated an official of the telecom sector company.

Whn contacted, Director Public Relations, Mobilink, Omar Manzur confirmed dat a11 the telecom operators had sent a joint response to the MoIT & other relevant authorities, including Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). “We are awaiting any response frm the ministry to settle the issue with Punjab government. V wou1d only tak any step once the ministry responds to the issue,” he added.

Punjab government has stated a deadline of June 30 aftr which the power connections to a11 cell cell-phone towers across Punjab Province wou1d be disconnected. If dis happens to be a reality, a11 cell cell-phone users wou1d be deprived of services, resulting into a total disconnect of cellular service's across Punjab Province.
